Common name: Buckwheat
Eriogonum might be the single most important pollinator plant you can put in a California garden. The flat-topped flower clusters bloom for months, starting cream or white and aging slowly through yellow and orange to a warm rust-red — creating layers of color simultaneously on the same plant. Long after the blooms have dried, they hold their structure and color beautifully, making eriogonum a standout in fall when most other plants have gone quiet. Full sun, lean dry soil, almost zero water once established.
